Former presidential candidate and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker announced that he intends to speak at Israel Appreciation Day 2024.
Shockingly, Senator Booker was in Jerusalem on October 7, 2023. CBS News reported, "The New Jersey Democrat and his staff were in Jerusalem when Hamas began carrying out its large-scale offensive against Israel 'and sheltered in place for their safety,' his spokesperson Maya Krishna-Rogers said in a statement Sunday afternoon."
In a statement posted on X Sen. Booker wrote, "I emphatically condemn Hamas' horrific acts of violence, kidnapping and terror targeting Israeli families, children and other civilians in towns and cities across the nation of Israel. I stand with the people of Israel and the families of those who have lost loved ones."
Sen. Booker was perhaps the only U.S. lawmaker in Israel at the time of the attack. Booker's experience in Israel and his compelling background will give the Israel Appreciation Day audience a unique perspective to the challenges that face the Jewish state.
Sen. Booker has dedicated his life to ensuring the American dream is accessible to all, especially those who have been marginalized or voiceless. Born and raised in northern New Jersey, Cory excelled academically and athletically at Stanford University, where he earned both undergraduate and master’s degrees. His commitment to service deepened as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford and later at Yale Law School.
After graduating, Cory moved to Newark, where he founded a nonprofit to provide legal services to low-income families. His experience living in a Newark housing project further fueled his passion for social justice and equality.
Elected to the Newark City Council at 29, Cory challenged the political status quo and fought for economic security, healthcare access, and public safety. As mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013, he led the city through a period of significant economic growth and social progress.
Since 2013, Cory has represented New Jersey in the U.S. Senate, where he has become a national leader in criminal justice reform, economic policy, and healthcare advocacy. His innovative, consensus-building approach continues to drive his efforts to create a more just and equitable society for all Americans.
Streamed worldwide on September 18th, Israel Appreciation Day is a non-partisan, interfaith, and grassroots celebration showcasing the unique bond between the State of Israel and the United States of America. Event chairman Robert Chernin states, "Israel Appreciation Day is a powerful demonstration of support for Israel, highlighting its shared values with America, its crucial role as the only democracy and the United States' only steadfast ally in the Middle East, and its many important contributions to the world."
